This AMG newcomer is Mercedes newest creation directed at Porsche and Audi.
This new car has been designed not so much to replace the outgoing AMG SLS… which as you might recall had the Gullwing doors, but instead this car was designed to target a more specific market… namely the Porsche 911 and Audi R8.
This new Mercedes-AMG GT will be considerably less expensive than the SLS and have a bit less horsepower (The SLS had 583bhp), but it will be lighter and come in two versions at the start.
Both versions will be powered by a new 4-liter Bi-Turbo V8… the base version will produce 462 hp which will launch the car from 0-60 in 4 seconds, while the Mercedes-AMG GT S Model will have 510 hp and will get you from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
The previous model SLS would get you from 0-60 in about 3.2 seconds… so while this new GT will not be as fast in the two new versions…. it is rumored that Mercedes will announce a Black Version of the car which will likely top the performance of the SLS.
Let’s take a look at the car at Laguna Seca Raceway…
I love this car! It sounds bad ass… and the changes they made have really improved this car over the SLS. It sounds like the shifting has improved dramatically too…
I really like the new styling… and I’m glad they scrapped the gullwing doors… that always bothered me just a little. It somehow made me think “Douce factor”… eehhmm
Anyway… I think this new look is much better than the SLS… it just seems like it will stand the test of time better. It looks great from every angle too… the rear is sexy when it’s slow moving… and then the rear wing pops up at speed and it takes on a “Mean” look…
I love the interior… very slick looking and modern… yet it looks like you could spend all day in the drivers seat without getting a back ache.

So… the obvious question on people’s mind is… How Much?
The highly anticipated and much ballyhooed Mercedes-AMG GT S sports coupe appears to have been leaked, and here’s how not-cheap it is: According to our friends at Jalopnik, a tipster has shared a memo from Mercedes-Benz stating that the 503-hp GT S will start at $129,900. No mention if that includes the destination and delivery charge, but we imagine that will be extra. The MSRP, however, does include Nappa leather, collision prevention, keyless entry and starting, and a Burmester sound system.
Once destination and delivery are added, the GT S’s base price will very nearly match the 475-hp Porsche 911 GT3’s $131,395 sticker—coincidence? hmmm—while being way cheaper than the 525-hp Audi R8 V-10 Coupe’s $155,450 sticker. On the other hand, it is considerably higher than the 550-hp Jaguar F-Type R, which may not carry the prestige of the three-pointed star but seems like a damn bargain now at just $99,925. Plus there’s the options, which are likely to carry the new AMG to $150K or more. blog.caranddriver.com
So there you go..! For about $150k you can have yourself the new AMG GT… and I think this car looks better than the SLS and it sells for way less… so it’s a really smart decision by Mercedes-Benz to do a better job with their target buyer in this case. There’s plenty of cars in this price category… however I think this should do extremely well.
In the meantime… how about some nice pics!
I had to sneak a silver one in here somewhere!
So there you go Mercedes fans… I would say it will be a pretty tough competitor for the Porsche 911 and Audi R8… I know which one I would choose!
